Secret Occult Knowledge and Flying Saucers

The Bibliography of Fantastic Beliefs

Paul Smith

In reality a supplement to the Priory of Sion Bibliography – with the various authors ranging from keen amateurs to hardline professionals – most of the Titles listed below are not widely accepted as historically reliable by mainstream academic scholars and therefore fall into the category of Pseudo-History or Occult Magic (or both) – some or most of which will also be embraced by the believers in the ‘mystery’ of Rennes-le-Château and the ‘reality’ of the Priory of Sion (either literal or symbolic), since there is much overlap here.

No amount of conclusive evidence shown to believers to demonstrate that something is a non-sequitur will prevent them from believing – it has been observed: “Conspiracists are always winners. Their arguments have a determined flexibility whereby any new and inconvenient truth can be accommodated within the theory itself” (in David Aaronovitch, Voodoo Histories: The Role of the Conspiracy Theory in Shaping Modern History; 2009).

That bizarre and illogical patterns of belief exist within society today is absolutely nothing new and can be evidenced by Charles Mackay’s 1841 book Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds, that contains the following quote: “Of all the offspring of Time, Error is the most ancient, and is so old and familiar an acquaintance, that Truth, when discovered, comes upon most of us like an intruder, and meets the intruder’s welcome.”

Since an extensive and exhaustive Bibliography of all known books relating to the Themes referred to below would involve many thousands of Titles, only the most important and most popular ones have been included.

Themes: secret advanced knowledge of lost civilisations, ‘cometary planets’ inspiring world religions, impact of 2010 (or 2012) Mayan Prophecy, Psychic Questings producing new “historical discoveries”, Dead Sea Scrolls revisionist theories involving Paul, demythologised Jesus Christs, Hidden Treasures, 9/11 conspiracy theories, sacred Landscape Geometries and Gematria, Ley Lines, Geomancy, Jesus Christ in India, Ancient Astronauts, Flying Saucers, Magic Mushrooms and Christianity, Face on Mars, Alien Abductions, Hollow Earth, Reincarnation, Esoteric Second Coming, Crystal Skulls, Runes, Uri Geller, Witchcraft, Atlantis and Lemuria, Secret Occult Knowledge and Ceremonial Magic, New World Order, Jesus Christ in Cornwall and Somerset, Jesus Christ in Scotland, Voynich Manuscript, Timeslips, Ghosts, Fairies, Spiritualism, Pyramidology, The Turin Shroud, Fortune Telling, Clairvoyance, The Tarot Cards, The Holy Grail, Feminist Goddess Worship, Nazis and the Occult, Cryptozoology, Feng-Shui, Crop Circles, Guardian Angels, Dragons, Vampires, Freemasonry, Rosicrucianism, Protocols of The Elders of Zion, Alchemy, The Bermuda Triangle, Dowsing, The Lost Tribes of Israel, Urban Legends, The Black Madonna as Pagan Mother Goddess.
