Bérenger Saunière His "Secret"
Bérenger Saunière wrote in his diary for 29 September, 1891:
"Saw priest from Névian - Géliss house Carrières house - saw Cros and Secret." The curé of Névian was Dumons, Gélis was the curé of Coustaussa, Carrière the curé of Bagès-les-Flots, while Cros was the Vicar General of the diocese and Pierre Pradel was the Secretary General "Secret" merely being an abbreviation for the word "Secrétaire". Jean-Jacques Bedu in Rennes-le-Château: autopsie d'un mythe (1990) was the first researcher to establish that "Secret" was an abbreviation for "Secrétaire" and he also provided another example of Saunière doing the same thing in his other writings "Guilhem Secret de évêché" Guilhem indeed being the Secretary General of the diocese at the time when Saunière wrote that.
